My entries to Scrapbooking Masters 2013

For the first time in 2013 I decided to have a go at entering the "Scrapbooking Masters" competition run by Scrapbooking Memories magazine- I have always wanted to but never made time, until one quiet Sunday I woke up and decided to do it. Only left myself a week to get the 4 projects entered- ha! Nothing like working under pressure!

Anyway, Top 10 scrappers from around Australia are chosen. I didn't win but I am pleased I had a go at it! And I was so pleased to see some of my FAVOURITE Scrapbookers named this year (Raquel, Sophie, Natalie and Chantal)... can't wait to see loads more of their work in the MAG this year.

Anyway, now it is all done and done, I thought I could share my entries... You'll find a photo of the project as well as my explanation and material lists (which had to be provided with the entry).

1. SINGLE LAYOUT – 5X7in PHOTO

Project Name: On this Day

About this project: This single page is a perfect example of my style – lots of patterned paper and clusters of interesting and well-balanced embellishments. And even though we have been married for over 13 years and I have been scrapbooking for over 12 years, I had never scrapbooked our wedding day! So scrapping this photo of my husband was inspiring, and reminded me why I love him so much. That’s what I love about scrapbooking! AND that’s why I rarely scrapbook in chronological order, preferring to scrap OLD and then NEW photos out of order. I just enjoy every memory attached to every photo, and I love remembering it all as I create the page!

Material List:

Papers: Fancy Pants, Echo Park.

Letters: October Afternoon, Studio Calico.

Embellishments: Freckled Fawn Wood chips, Studio Calico Wood chips, Finding nana badge, Greatest View badge, Green Tara paper roses, Pebbles black tag, Jillybean Soup canvas scalloped circle, Cosmo Cricket stickers, sequins, twine.

2. 2014 CALENDAR

Project name: 2014 Journey
About this project: Making a calendar for the Master’s competition seemed daunting and a real challenge. But then one day I woke up inspired… I remembered some old things hidden away in my stash – The board book, which I had bought from a second-hand scrapbook swap day and some month clips I had bought at an Office Depot in Los Angeles. I love digging deep into my well-organised stash and finding such treasures… So from that moment, the calendar came together so easily(with the help of washi tape of course!).  There is nothing like that creative buzz and flow! When completed, I was so pleased with the simple yet effective design of my calendar.
Material List:
Urban Lily Secret Keeper Board Book, Months printed on Vellum paper, Office Depot month clips, washi tape, Delish badge, Freckled Fawn enamel dew drops.
Letters: American Craft Thickers, October Afternoon, Fancy pants, Motex embossed tape.
Stickers: Cosmo Cricket, Little Yellow Bicycle, October Afternoon, Basic Grey, My Minds Eye, Studio Calico, Simple Stories, Collected&Co, American Crafts, Crate Paper.

3. SINGLE LAYOUT – UNIQUE BACKGROUND

Project name: Disco Bunny
About this project: Multi-media backgrounds are outside my usual style….. I don’t usually do “messy”. However, I was lucky enough in 2013 to go to a retreat with some amazing women who do this style really well. So, inspired by them and our time together, I got messy with gesso, washi and mists! The tulle on the background provides fantastic texture and I loved using bright colours and sequins. It is very rewarding to sit back and look at your latest creation, especially one that has made you step outside your comfort zone! Maybe I can do “messy” after all… as long as I get to clean up quickly afterwards!
Materials List:
Background created with: 12X12 Canvas, Tulle, Gesso, Washi tape, Mister Huey Mists & Smooch Spritz, Mister Huey Masks; Glitz Designs roller stamps, Versamark inks, Claudine Hellmuth gloss medium
Letters: American Craft Thickers; Simple Stories
Embellishments: Martha Stewart Butterfly punch, Cosmo Cricket stickers, Simple Stories stickers, Studio Calico diecut, {scrApthis!} felt, A Piece of Cake Designs Flair, Greatest View badge, My Little Bit of Whimsy fimo buttons, Basic Grey acetate arrow, velum envelope, neon tag, twine, buttons, sequins, dew drops, resin flower, silver glitter tape.

4. DOUBLE LAYOUT – JOURNEY

Project name: Everyday Journey

About this project: Totally inspired by these cool Instagram photos, this layout records some moments of everyday life here at the Hartmann house! I love to stop and detail the journey! Scrapbooking, for me, has always been about recording the big and the little, the important and the trivial, the fun and the special… all those moments in my life. After over 12 years of scrapbooking, I have loved the journey, watching my style change and my stash grow; but mostly I have loved sitting and sharing the memories made in the pages, with my family. Moments in our lives, recorded and documented!
Materials List:
Papers: Making memories, Crate Paper, Echo Park, Lillybee Designs
Letters: American Craft Thickers, Simple Stories
Stickers: My Minds Eye, October Afternoon, Crate Paper, Simple Stories, Studio Calico
Embellishments: Button&Badges Days of the Week badges, Fancy Pants buttons & chipboard accents, Freckled Fawn wood chip, Studio Calico bow, {scrApthis!} diecuts, Fancy Pants circular Filter papers, Hambly Studio transparency tags, Freckled Fawn enamel dew drops, Green Tara paper roses, twine, washi tape, handstitching.
